Mr. Prabir Banerjea, group CEO, Globally Managed Services along with Chief Secretary, Assam, Dr. Ravi Kota had a productive meeting with Dr. Praveer Sinha, CEO & MD of Tata Power, to explore potential collaborations in critical areas such as renewable energy, hydro sector and rooftop solar initiatives.
Under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, Assam has received a total of 2.1 lakh applications. The MD of Tata Power has expressed interest in working with the Government of Assam and is willing to extend the coverage to 5 lakh households, if there is sufficient demand.
Prospects for solar panel manufacturing projects in Assam by Tata Power to meet the demand of all 8 States of NE, West Bengal and neighbouring countries were also discussed.
Dr. Sinha apprised that Tata Power has initiated work with the Bhutan Government on a 600 MW Hydro Power Plant in Bhutan, expected to become operational within five years to address the power demand of India. Also deliberated on how Assam could benefit from this initiative.
